HISTORY
Ship pilotage services
have existed since the earliest times of
commercial navigation.
In 1561 the first
"Pilotage Regulations" were prepared and
the first exams were performed to
obtain permission to work as a pilot.
In 1886 the regulations on which the profession is based were unified . In the Port of Bilbao de Bilbao, the new Pilotage Regulations came into force
on 24th August, 1889, which established the Pilotage Association of the Port and River of Bilbao.
